My sister just emailed me to tell me that our grandmother has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and the first doctor said that it was inoperable. They are going to get a second opinion, but the one doctor wasn’t, I gather, very reassuring. I would guess that the cigarettes might have had something to do with it, but I am not an expert. My grandmother is in her late 80s, a small woman, a trained pianist and organist….my grandparents were the one constant in my early years. They always, to this day, lived in the same house in the same little town in Oklahoma, while our family moved all over the country and I myself travelled around the world. I need to write her, but honestly I don’t know what to say. I will write her anyway, though. I don’t know what else I can do. I will see that they find out, but it looks like I will be making a trip back there sometime relatively soon.
I was going to write about my day, but suddenly it seems so trivial I have forgetten what I did. I can’t really see the point anyway.
