Absolutely Not Your Monkey

I did actually do something yesterday. I went and…

I did actually do something yesterday. I went and rented a few DVDs from Blockbuster. I saw Bridge of the River Kwai and The Shawshank Redemption last night. Both were excellent, but I was a bit dissapointed with the former after seeing the epic Lawrence of Arabia. Is it me, or does David Lean often leave pivitol parts of his stories out of his movies? Sometimes I feel like there was a skip, as if someone had made a bad MP3 copy or the needle jumped across part of an old LP(remember those?). Or maybe, like any good director, he is simply encouraging the audience to fill in the blanks with their imaginations. This was, of course, made back when audiences had imaginations. Now they require explosions, TNA and car chases.

Shawshank, though, was a masterpiece, compelling and entertaining at every turn, even though I had already read the story. Tonight I plan to watch Ghost Dog.

Went to the doctor last night. He said my throat was infected and gave me some medicine. I hope this stuff works. At the very least it is making me feel rather loopy. I suspect that being in this freezing office all day is responsible for my colds. It’s funny that so many people beleive that Taiwan needs a 4th nuclear plant when we could probably cut our electicity needs by a good amount just by keeping the average indoor temperature at aroun 23-25 degrees(celsius) instead of the present 17-20 degrees(yes, I took a reading). But I doubt anyone realizes this, of course. Even if I mention this to people at work, all I get is a blank stare. All I can do is take frequent trips to the parts of the building that aren’t afflicted with air conditioning, like the stairwell, kitchen or bathroom.

A film crew was up on the pedestrian overpass at the intersection of Hoping E. and Hsinsheng S. rds last night. They had dragged a bunch of shrubbery up there. I can only imagine that they are filming a music video. I have found that I don’t usually do well on other people’s sets. I haven’t the foggiest idea what they are up to, and I usually don’t care. I realize that this is very arrogant of me, but I feel that if I am not even to be trusted with some information on the plot or what the director is trying to do with this scene, then there’s no reason I should bother with it. I also dislike large film crews, for some reason. If it were up to me, it would just be me and a few friends, with a minimum of equipment, a mobile, independent crew that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Ah, that’ll be the day.
