Planning my escape

spyAs Bitan becomes Fireworks Central every Chinese New Year, resulting in a severe lack of sleep, I yielded to my urge to spend some time wandering around a gigantic urban landscape taking pictures and purchased airplane tickets to Tokyo. I leave tomorrow.

The last time I was in Tokyo was in 1991 for a couple of weeks over Christmas, and then I was ushered around with the family of a friend of mine, never really allowed to go explore on my own. I remember that the food was good and it snowed, and everything seemed really clean after living in Taiwan.

This time, besides a ticket to see the Ghibli Museum, I don’t have any plans or itinerary, just reservations at a cheap hotel and a subway map.

Of course, after a late night out performing with the band last weekend (the infamous “Night of the Six Drinks” in which I tried to find out just what went best with tequila, if anything at all), I came down with a nasty cold that I’m just now getting over, and I still feel drained. One reason I choose Tokyo over Kyoto was that I figured there would be more indoor areas there in order to escape the cold if it gets too bad. Not to mention a greater concentration and variety of gay comic book stores.

Still, if you’re in Tokyo or have any ideas about what I should do there or where to go to get good pictures (check my flickr site to see what kind of shots I take), drop me a line. I’m taking my Thinkpad so if I can find enough wifi goodness I might do some updates while I’m there.

  1. Don’t worry. With the magic jacket of toasty magnificence you’ll be fine. I’d love to visit that museum, too. Dunno about gay comic book stores though. Different kinds, yet? The mind truly boggles.

  4. 很抱歉, 我目前還沒有找到出版社愿意幫我出英文版, 所以現在只有中文版而已。
